What’s going on in the US –
NAEYC sent out a recent update on happenings in Congress, child care and the budget caps. The Congress is working to come to an agreement that raises the debt ceiling and the budget caps. NAEYC reminds all that their team is focused on making sure the caps are lifted so that CCDBG and other key programs receive needed funding increases. NAEYC encourages all to continue to advocate with your legislatures. To read more about other states advocacy click here.
What’s going on in NJ –
Good News! On June 30, 2019 Governor Murphy signed the 2020 budget that included $9 million in increased child care funds. The budget also includes $68 million to expand preschool to additional districts, support existing preschool programs and assist in wraparound services and $9 million for state and local census outreach. We thank Governor Murphy for his support for these programs that impact New Jersey’s children and families. To read more click here.
What’s coming up–
On July 18, 2019, Advocates for Children of New Jersey (ACNJ) and the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) convened a preschool expansion advisory group to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share information relevant to the NJ Preschool Expansion initiative. Applications for the next phase of the NJ Preschool Expansion are due August 1, 2019. To read more click here.

Family engagement is an important process that brings together parents, other family members, children and early childhood professionals to work together in partnership of children’s learning, healthy development, and well-being.
