Kay Hendon

Kay Hendon is currently serving as Special Advisor for Early Childhood Policy at the Turrell Fund.

Previously she served as a Senior Program Officer at The Nicholson Foundation for ten years. Kay’s focus there was the Foundation’s early childhood initiatives, including championing high quality programs for vulnerable infants and toddlers and developing the Foundation’s partnership with the State in improving the quality of home-based child care.

She has held leadership positions in both the nonprofit and public sectors in child care, child welfare, and neighborhood services and has spearheaded public policy initiatives in New York and elsewhere. Before joining the Foundation, she was the Associate Commissioner for Child Care Operations for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services and Director of the Office of Child Care at the NYC Human Resources Administration. In those positions, she managed the child care subsidy program and oversaw the merger of the child care programs at the Human Resources Administration and the Administration for Children’s Services.

In Wisconsin, she served as Child Care Administrator for the State and as Executive Director of an eleven-county child care resource and referral organization in Madison and surrounding counties.

Kay holds an MSW degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed a mid-career fellowship at the Center for Early Education Development at the University of Minnesota.
